Windows 95/98 Upgrade Overwrites Default User Profile for Windows 2000 (214611)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional

This article was previously published under Q214611

SUMMARY

When you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 to Windows 2000 Professional, the default Windows 95/98 user profile is retained as the default Windows 2000 profile. If you do not want to use the default Windows 95/98 user profile as the default Windows 2000 profile, you can use an Unattend.txt file to disable this behavior. If you do this, Windows 2000 builds its own default user profile (as if you had not upgraded from Windows 95/98).

MORE INFORMATION

To use the Unattend.txt file, use the following syntax in the file:

[Win9xUpg]
MigrateDefaultUser=no
