XL2000: Cannot Move a Line to the Top or Left Side of a Worksheet (214356)

SYMPTOMS

You may not be able to move a line or arrow drawing object to the top or far left side of a worksheet.

Instead, you can move the object to a location that is several rows from the top, or one or more columns from the left edge of the worksheet. You cannot move the object any closer to the top or left edge.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you have used the Free Rotate tool on the Drawing toolbar to rotate the line or arrow.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
  • Delete the line or arrow, and then use the Line tool or the Arrow tool to draw a new line in the position that you want.

    -or-
  • Use the Free Rotate tool to rotate the line or arrow back to its original orientation.
NOTE: You can then use the handles to orient the line or arrow to the orientation that you want, and to move the line or arrow to the position that you want.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

You can use the Free Rotate tool on the Drawing toolbar to rotate a drawing object around a central position without resizing or otherwise altering the drawing object. To use the Free Rotate tool, follow these steps:
  1. Select the drawing object that you want to rotate.
  2. On the Drawing toolbar, click the Free Rotate tool.
  3. Drag one of the green handles around the center of the drawing object.

    As you do this, the object rotates around its center point.
  4. When you have finished, click the Free Rotate tool again.
