SYMPTOMS

When you use the AutoCaption feature to insert a caption for a Microsoft Equation 3.0 object, the caption indicates that the object is a figure instead of an equation.

WORKAROUND

To change the default setting so that the caption label correctly indicates that the object is an equation, follow these steps.
  1. On the Insert menu, click Caption, and then click AutoCaption.
  2. In the AutoCaption dialog box, select the Microsoft Equation 3.0 check box.
  3. In the Use label box, click Equation. Or click New Label, and then type a new label.
  4. Click OK.
Now, when you insert an Equation Editor object, the caption that you specified automatically appears.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
