WD2000: Existing Macros and AutoText Entries Are Not Saved with New Form (214156)

SYMPTOMS

Macros and AutoText entries that you move from a startup or global template to a new location are not available in a form template.

CAUSE

Macros and AutoText entries that are saved in other templates are not copied to the form template when they are used by a form field. As a result, the macros and AutoText entries are not available in the form template if you move the form template from the location of the other templates that contain the macros or AutoText entries.

Word makes the macros and AutoText entries of multiple templates available globally when you place templates in the Startup location. (To find the Startup location, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then select the File Locations tab. Startup is listed in the File types section on the File Locations tab.)

When you develop a template with form fields, you can select form field On Entry and On Exit macros, and AutoText entries for the form field Help text from the other templates in the Startup location. However, the macros and AutoText that you select are not stored with your form template.

If you want the form template to be portable, you should store all macros and AutoText entries with the form template by copying them from the other templates.

How to Copy AutoText Entries and Macros Between Templates

  1. On the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-Ins, and then click Organizer.
  2. Click the Styles, AutoText, Toolbars, or Macro Project Items tab.
  3. In the In document name box on the left (where document name is the name of the open document or template), click the entry that you want to copy, and then click Copy.
  4. Click Close.
