1. Start Microsoft Excel, and then press ALT+F11 to start the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor.
2. On the Insert menu, click Module.
3. In the module sheet, type the following code:

   Sub Delete_Submenu()
     Set x = CommandBars("Worksheet Menu Bar").Controls("Tools")
     x.Controls("Protection").Delete
   End Sub
   						

   This macro deletes the Protection submenu on the Tools menu on the worksheet menu bar.
4. In the module sheet, type the following code:

   Sub Restore_Submenu()
      Set x = CommandBars("Worksheet Menu Bar").Controls("Tools")
      x.Controls.Add Type:=msoControlPopup, ID:=30029, before:=1
      x.Reset
   End Sub
   						

   This macro uses the Add method to restore the Protection submenu (ID:=30029) to the Tools menu, and places the submenu at the start of the menu (before:=1).
   
   NOTE: To ensure that all the commands are displayed correctly on a submenu, use the menu ID number instead of the menu name.
5. Press ALT+F11 to return to Excel.
6. On the Tools menu, note that the Protection submenu is displayed, point to Macro, and then click Macros.
7. In the Macro name list, click Delete_Submenu, and then click Run.
   
   Note that now the Protection submenu is not displayed on the Tools menu.
8. In the Macro name list, click Restore_Submenu, and then click Run.
   
   Note that the Protection submenu reappears on the Tools menu.
