OL2000: (CW) Illegal Operation Message When Synchronizing Offline Store File (212964)

SYMPTOMS
If you synchronize offline folder settings in Microsoft Outlook you may receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
DETAILS:
Outlook caused an invalid page fault in module OUTLLIB.DLL at <address>.
CAUSE
The offline folder file (.ost) is located on another computer and is not shared or is not available.
When you click OK to the above error message, Outlook quits. If you then restart Outlook it appears to run properly; however, without warning Outlook now uses a local offline folder at:
C:\Windows\Local Settings\Application Data\ Microsoft\Outlook.ost.
RESOLUTION
Store your .ost on your local computer or be sure the .ost located on the other computer is available before you synchronize offline folder settings.
