OL2000: (CW) Unable to Automatically Add MAPI Services with Profile Wizard (212918)

NOTE: The procedures in this article only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. With this option, you can use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, click About Microsoft Outlook on the Help menu. If you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation, you see "Corporate or Workgroup".

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to configure a profile for use with Outlook, services such as Microsoft Mail, cc:Mail, and Microsoft Fax (if previously installed) are not available in the initial selection page of the Inbox Setup Wizard.

CAUSE

The Automatic mode of the Inbox Setup Wizard only lists the services for Microsoft Exchange Server and Internet E-mail.

RESOLUTION

Configure the profile to add the needed services using the Inbox Setup Wizard Manual Configuration.

To manually configure the profile in the Inbox Setup Wizard, follow these steps:
  1. On the Start menu, click Settings and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Mail or Mail and Fax icon.
  3. Click Show Profiles and Add. In the Inbox Setup Wizard, click to select Manually Configure Information Services. Click Next.
  4. In the Profile Name box, type a name for your profile. Click Next.
  5. In Profile Name Properties, Click the Services tab if it is not all ready selected. Add and configure the necessary information services for your profile and then click Next to complete the profile.
