OFF2000: Application Information Missing in System Information Utility (212761)

SYMPTOMS

When you run the System Information utility, the Applications section that lists all the installed Microsoft Office programs is missing.

CAUSE

This problem will occur when you do the following:
  • You install Office 2000 on Microsoft Windows 95. -and-

  • You upgrade to Windows 98. -and-

  • You run the System Information utility.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, run the Office Setup program and select the Repair option. To select this option, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. Click Microsoft Office 2000, and click Add/Remove.
  3. In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.
  4. In the Reinstall/Repair Microsoft Office 2000 dialog box, click Repair errors in my Office installation. Click Finish.

Both Office and Windows 98 include a tool called Microsoft System Information (Msinfo32.exe). This tool can be used to gather information about your computer, to diagnose problems, or to access other tools that are included with Windows 98. For example, if you are having display problems, you can use the System Information tool to determine what display adapter is installed on your computer, and view the status of the drivers.
