PUB2000: File Link Error Message When Opening Publisher (212647)

This article was previously published under Q212647 SYMPTOMS You may receive the following error messages, when you open
a Publisher document that contains a linked object:
- When the server application is renamed:
Cannot update object. Windows may be low on memory or disk space, or an object may not be correctly registered. -
If you copy and paste an object, such as text from Microsoft Word 2000, into a publication or if you double-click an object in the publication: Publisher cannot launch or communicate with the OLE server program needed to complete this task.
There may not be enough disk space, or there may be a problem with the server program. To make more disk space available, delete some unneeded files on your hard disk. If you suspect a problem with the server program, try reinstalling it. Then try this task again. CAUSEThe path in the Windows Registry to the server application
is incorrect. Additionally, some antivirus programs may block access to the
server program through a script blocking feature.WORKAROUND Reinstall the server application to rewrite the registry
entries. If you reinstall the server program and that does not resolve the
problem, turn off the script blocking feature in your antivirus
program.
