WD2000: Table Is Not Aligned in Text Column (212320)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q212320 SYMPTOMS
When you center or right align a table, it may not align correctly within the column of text.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the table is inserted into a text column unequal in width to the first (leftmost) column. The width of the first column is used for aligning any object in any other column; therefore, attempting to align a table in a column other than the first will produce incorrect results.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, change the wrapping style of your Word table. To do this, follow these steps:
- Select the table.
- On the Table menu, click Table Properties.
- On the Table tab, under Text wrapping, select Around, and then click Positioning.
- In the Table Positioning dialog box, under Horizontal, select Center or Right for Position, and select Column for Relative to.
- Click OK to close the Table Positioning dialog box.
- Click OK to close the Table Properties dialog box.
MORE INFORMATION
Word aligns the table based on the width of the first (leftmost) column. If the leftmost column is wider than the second column, the table may be shifted off the page.
