This article was previously published under Q212295 SYMPTOMS
When you insert a picture or drawing object into a Word document and then press ENTER, the picture or drawing object moves down the page with the insertion point.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Move to the End of the Paragraph That Contains the Object Anchor- Click to select the drawing or AutoShape object.
- Press ESC. This cancels the selection of the picture.
- Press END. This moves the insertion point to the end of the paragraph that contains the picture or drawing object anchor.
- Press ENTER or type any text. The drawing object now does not move.
Method 2: Clear the "Move Object with Text" Check Box- If the drawing object is not already selected, click to select the drawing object.
- On the Format menu, click AutoShape.
- On the Layout tab, click Advanced.
- On the Picture Position tab, click to clear the Move object with text check box, and then click OK to close the Advanced Layout dialog box.
- Click OK to close the Format AutoShape dialog box.
Method 3: Move the Object Anchor Above the Insertion Point
If you want to insert text or press ENTER without affecting the placement of the picture or drawing object, move the object anchor to a different paragraph above the insertion point. To view the object anchors (you must be in print layout view), click Options on the Tools menu, and then, on the View tab, click to select the Object Anchors check box.
To move an object anchor, place the mouse pointer over the object anchor. When the four-ended arrow appears with the mouse pointer, click and hold the mouse button, and then drag the object anchor to a different paragraph above the insertion point.
Method 4: Change the Wrapping Style
Use this method if you inserted a picture From File or from Clip Art (on the Insert menu, point to Picture). NOTE: When you insert a picture from file or insert a clip art picture, the picture is inserted with the In line with text wrapping style.
- Click to select the picture or clip art object.
- On the Format menu, click Picture.
- On the Layout tab, click a wrapping style other than In line with text (for example, click In front of text), and then click Advanced.
- On the Picture Position tab, click to clear the Move object with text check box, and then click OK.
- Click OK to close the Format Picture dialog box.
