WD2000: Cannot Move to Next Text Box in Odd and Even Headers or Footers (212248)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q212248

SYMPTOMS

If you have linked text boxes in odd and even headers or footers, when you click the Next Text Box button (on the Text Box toolbar), nothing happens. You cannot go to the next linked text box. However, if you click Previous Text Box, you can go to the previous text box.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do either of the following:
  • Click to select the next text box you want.

    -or-
  • Click to select the last text box and then click the Previous Text Box button on the Text Box toolbar.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

With the "link text boxes" feature, text can start in one text box and flow into the next linked text box. A good example of using this feature is a newsletter. The text of an article can start on page one and flow to the next text box on page three (or any other page) to complete the article.

Text boxes have full functionality when you use them in the body of the document. If you place them in odd and even headers or footers, the functionality of advancing to the next text box is not the same as when they are in the body of the document. The previous text box functionality is the same as it is in the body of the document.
