XL2000: Copying Shapes Cancels Selection of Shape (212077)

SYMPTOMS

After you copy a shape to another worksheet in Microsoft Excel 2000, the shape you copied may no longer be selected.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
  • You have drawn a shape on a worksheet.

    -and-
  • You selected the cells around the shape and copied them.

    -and-
  • You selected the shape.

    -and-
  • You then pasted the cells you copied to another worksheet.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Select the shape.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
  3. Switch to the worksheet on which you want to paste the shape.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
NOTE: This method copies only the shape, not the cells around the shape.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
