XL2000: AutoComplete Works Differently After 102 Rows Past Last Occurrence (212069)

SYMPTOMS

When there are more than 102 rows from the last occurrence of an item in a list, AutoComplete works differently than expected. Unless you are within 50 rows of the last occurrence of the item, you must type more than just the first character of an entry for the entry to be completed automatically.

NOTE: Pick From List works correctly.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if there are more than 102 non-blank rows in a column since an item last occurred.

WORKAROUND

AutoComplete works after you type one more character than you would normally expect to type. You can also select from a list of entries already in the column. To display the list, press ALT+DOWN ARROW to display the list, or right-click the cell, and then click Pick From List on the shortcut menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in Microsoft Excel 2000.
