XL2000: Constrained Line or Arrow Is Pasted Incorrectly (212035)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 2000
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000
This article was previously published under Q212035 SYMPTOMS
If you paste a copy of a drawn line or arrow, the position of the pasted item may be offset from the active cell.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
- You are using Microsoft Excel 2000 on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000.
-and-
- You draw a vertical or horizontal line or arrow either manually or
constrained to the side or bottom of the cell (or cells) by pressing the ALT key.
-and-
- The line or arrow to be copied is drawn in a cell other than A1.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, select and copy all of the cells surrounding
the line or arrow, rather than just the line or arrow itself.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
The offset of the pasted item does not occur with constrained lines drawn at a slant. The amount of offset varies and is based on the original location of the copied line by the number of rows from Row 1 and the number of columns from Column 1.
For example, if you copy a line from cell D7 and attempt to paste it
into cell B5, it is pasted into cell E11. The amount of the offset
as calculated from cell A1 (A1 minus B5) is one column and four rows, which, when added to cell D7, is E11.
