WD2000: Borders Overlap When You Try to Position Frames Side by Side (212002)

SYMPTOMS

The left and right borders overlap by about 4 points on frames that are positioned side by side when you use the Frame dialog box on the Format menu. The borders overlap if all of the following conditions are true:

You create two frames by first creating two text boxes (click Text Box on the Insert menu) and then converting each text box to a frame by clicking Text Box on the Format menu and clicking Convert to Frame on the Text Box tab of the Format Text Box dialog box.
For the first frame, you select the frame, click Format, and then click Frame. In the Frame dialog box, you set the width to 1 inch, the horizontal position to 1 inch, and text wrapping to None.
For the second frame, you select the frame, click Format, and then Frame. In the Frame dialog box, you set the width to 1 inch, the horizontal position to 2 inches, and text wrapping to None.

CAUSE

The left and right borders of a frame are approximately 4 points larger than the dimension that is specified in the Width setting of the Frame dialog box on the Format menu. The horizontal position of the left frame border is offset approximately 2 points to the left of the position that is specified in the Position box under Horizontal. When you try to position two frames next to each other so that their left and right borders touch, they overlap by approximately 4 points if the frame width and horizontal position do not compensate for these offsets.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, do one of the following:

Use text boxes instead of frames.

Adjust the width and horizontal position of the frames to compensate for the offsets.
