XL2000: Chart Series Does Not Use Removed Secondary Axis Scale (211940)

This article was previously published under Q211940 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel, when you plot a chart series along a secondary series
axis that uses a different scale than the primary axis, and you remove the
secondary axis, the series does not use the scale of the axis that you
remove. Instead, Excel plots the series using the scale of the primary axis.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, plot a chart series or group with a different scale from the scale that the primary axis uses, without displaying a secondary axis, and then format the secondary axis so that it does not appear on the chart. To do this, follow these steps:
- Select the secondary axis (the axis that you do not want to appear). On the Format menu, click Selected Axis.
- Click the Patterns tab. Under Lines, click None; under Tick-Mark Labels, click None, and then click OK.
MORE INFORMATION
If you plot a chart series or group on a secondary axis, the series or
group uses only the scale of the secondary axis, if it is available.
NOTE: This behavior is different from versions of Microsoft Excel earlier than 5.0. In earlier versions, if you plot a chart overlay on an overlay axis and format the axis with a different scale from the main axis scale, the chart overlay uses the overlay axis scale. This is true even if you remove the overlay axis.
REFERENCESFor more information about changing the value axis scale, click Microsoft Excel Help on the Help menu, type change the scale of the value axis in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.
