WD2000: Text Appears to be Missing When You Save Using the AutoSummarize Feature (211927)

SYMPTOMS

When you save and then close a document while only the summary is visible, and you then reopen the document, the text in your document may appear to be missing.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you use the AutoSummarize feature and select the Hide everything but the summary without leaving the original document option.

RESOLUTION

To retrieve the document text that "disappeared" when you saved the summary, use either of the following options:
  • Click Close on the AutoSummarize toolbar.

    -or-
  • Click the Highlight/Show Only Summary button on the AutoSummarize toolbar.
To prevent this behavior from occurring again, use any of the following options before you save and close your document:
  • Use one of the other AutoSummarize options (Highlight key points, Insert an executive summary or abstract at the top of the document, or Create a new document and put the summary there).
  • Click Close on the AutoSummarize toolbar.
  • Click Highlight/Show Only Summary on the AutoSummarize toolbar.
  • On the Edit menu, click Undo.
