WD2000: Table Row Does Not Increase to Show All Text (211869)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q211869

SYMPTOMS

When you change the text direction of text inside a table cell to a vertical orientation, the table cell may not be resized enough to show all of your text. If you have more than a few lines of text, the text may be cut off when it is rotated vertically.

CAUSE

The height of the table row changes from an auto setting to a setting of At least .79" when you change the text orientation of the text in the cell to vertical.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the height of the table row that contains the vertically oriented text by using one of the following methods.

Method 1: Use Menu Commands

  1. Position the insertion point in the table row that you want to correct.
  2. On the Table menu, point to Select, and then click Row.
  3. On the Table menu, click Table Properties, and then click the Row tab.
  4. Under Size, select the Specify height check box, increase the setting of the row height to a value that will accommodate the amount of rotated text in the table cells, and then click OK.

Method 2: Use the Mouse

Move the mouse pointer to the bottom border of the affected row. When the mouse pointer turns into two parallel lines with arrows pointing both upward and downward, click and hold the mouse button, and then move the table border to increase the cell height to the proper setting to accommodate the amount of rotated text.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Word 2000.
