This article was previously published under Q211808 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Word 2000, if you open a Word for Windows 95 version 7.0 document or template containing a toolbar with the sad face assigned to a toolbar button, the original color of the sad face button is lost.
CAUSE
There are certain reserved colors in Word. In Word 95, bright purple is reserved; in Word 97 and Word 2000, bright green and bright purple are reserved. When you click a toolbar button containing a reserved color in Word 2000, Word makes those colors transparent.
Because bright green and bright purple are reserved colors in Word 2000, the button becomes transparent when converted to Word 2000.
WORKAROUND
In Word 2000, the sad-face button image is the same color as the toolbar. If you want to use a button image with color, follow these steps:
- Right-click the converted toolbar button and then click Customize.
- Leave the Customize dialog box open (you may need to move it out of the way) and then right-click the sad-face icon on the toolbar to see the shortcut menu.
- Click Edit button image.
NOTE: The sad-face icon is the color of the background. - Make the changes you want and then click OK.
- Click Close to return to your document.
