XL2000: "Project Is Unviewable" Error Message When You Try to View Project (211792)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2000

This article was previously published under Q211792

SYMPTOMS

If you try to view a Visual Basic for Applications project in the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor, the following error message may appear
Project Locked
Project is unviewable
even though you did not lock the project for viewing in the properties for the project. This message may also appear if you click VBAProject Properties on the Tools menu in the Microsoft Visual Basic Editor.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you try to view a project that is in a shared workbook.

WORKAROUND

You cannot view a project in a shared workbook. If you want to view a project in a shared workbook, turn off sharing. To turn off sharing, use the following steps:
  1. Open the shared workbook.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Share Workbook.
  3. Clear the Allow changes by more than one user at the same time check box, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

Some features in Microsoft Excel 2000 are not available when you use a shared workbook. In a shared workbook, you cannot write, change views, record, or assign macros. However, you can record a macro that is stored in another workbook that is not shared. You can run macros that were created before the workbook was shared, but if you run a macro that includes an operation that is unavailable, the macro stops at that point.
