This article was previously published under Q211743 SYMPTOMS
When you double-click an EQ (equation) field that applies a box around your text, the text is opened in Microsoft Equation Editor. When you click back into your document, the border around the text is lost and the EQ field is changed to an EMBED field.
For example, the following EQ field
places a box around the word "test" as in the following:
If you double-click the bordered word "test", the text is opened in Microsoft Equation Editor. After you click back into your document, the border is lost and the text is changed as in the following:
When you press ALT+F9 to view the field code, the following EMBED field is displayed:
CAUSE
When you double-click the result of an EQ field, Microsoft Word interprets the EQ field as an Equation object and converts the results of the EQ field into a Microsoft Equation Editor object.
When you click to return to your document, the EQ field is replaced with the EMBED field.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
Method 1: Use the Border Feature
When placing borders around words, use the Border feature of Word rather than using an EQ field. To do this, follow these steps:
- Select the word you want to place a box around.
- On the Format menu, click Borders and Shading, and select the Borders tab.
- Under Setting, click a format you want to use for your box. Under Apply To, select Text.
- Click OK.
Method 2: Undo the Changes
Click the Undo button on the Standard toolbar to reverse the change. If you cannot undo the change, delete the {Embed.Equation.3} field and reinsert the {EQ} field.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
