XL2000: Euro Currency Symbols Deleted After File Is Saved in Excel 98 (211599)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a file in Microsoft Excel, all occurrences of the Euro currency symbol may be replaced with an underscore character (_).

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you save a file in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, which was developed before the Euro currency symbol was in use.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, obtain the Microsoft Office 98 Update for the Macintosh 8.5 operating system (OS).

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, re-insert the Euro currency symbol in each place that it has been replaced by the underscore character.

MORE INFORMATION

When you open a Microsoft Excel 2000 for Windows file that contains the Euro currency symbol in Excel 98, you receive an error message, and all occurrences of the Euro currency symbol are replaced by the underscore character.
