WD2000: Unable to Apply Bullets or Numbers While Tracking Changes (211588)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q211588 SYMPTOMS
When you delete a bulleted or numbered paragraph, including the paragraph mark, while the Track Changes while editing option is selected, you won't be able to reapply the bullet or numbering properties to the text. The Bullets and Numbering command on the Format menu and the Bullets and Numbering buttons on the Formatting toolbar will be unavailable (dimmed).
This behavior does not occur if you delete the text without deleting the paragraph mark.
NOTE: To locate the Track Changes while editing option, point to Track Changes on the Tools menu, and then click Highlight Changes.
CAUSE
The bullet or numbering status of the paragraph will remain unchanged until a new paragraph mark takes its place.
WORKAROUND
To be able to apply bullets or numbering to or remove bullets or numbering from the paragraph, do not mark the paragraph mark for deletion. To unmark the paragraph for deletion, follow these steps:
- Click the Show/Hide button on the Standard toolbar so that the paragraph marks are displayed in the document.
- Select the paragraph mark at the end of the paragraph that you want to unmark for deletion.
- On the Tools menu, point to Track Changes, and click Accept or Reject Changes.
- Click Reject to unmark the paragraph mark, and then click Close to return to the document.
You can now add bullets or numbering to or remove bullets or numbering from the deleted paragraph.
