XL2000: Pasting an Entire Column Is Slower Than in Earlier Versions (211582)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q211582 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel 2000, when you copy and then paste an entire column in a
worksheet, the paste operation may take up to four times as long to
complete as it did in versions of Microsoft Excel prior to Excel 97.
CAUSE
Worksheets in Microsoft Excel 2000 can contain up to 65536 rows, which is four times the number of rows of versions of Microsoft Excel prior to Excel 97. Worksheets in versions prior to Excel 97 can contain only up to 16384 rows of information.
MORE INFORMATION
The amount of time required to paste copied cells is roughly proportional
to the number of cells you copy. For example, if you copy an entire column
of cells in Microsoft Excel 2000, the time required to paste the 65536 cells is roughly four times the time required to perform the same operation in versions prior to Excel 97 that contain only 16384 cells.
