WD2000: User Name Dialog Box Appears When You Start Word (211549)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Word, the User Name dialog box appears, prompting you for your name and initials.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the User Information tab is blank. (To view the User Information tab, on the Tools menu, click Options.)

WORKAROUND

To prevent the User Name dialog box from appearing, fill in your name and initials. To prevent this behavior without filling in your name and initials, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the User Information tab.
  3. In the Name box, press SPACEBAR to insert a blank space, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

You may not want user information recorded on the User Information tab in Word. If you clear the Name and Initials boxes, Word prompts you with the User Name dialog box when you restart Microsoft Word 2000.

NOTE: Default entries are placed in the Name and Initials boxes of the User Name dialog box when you restart Word. The user information is shared among the Microsoft Office applications.

Word uses the user information for the following items:

  • Property Sheet Information
  • Letters, Envelopes, and Memos
  • Track Changes
  • Comments
