- Microsoft Excel 2000
- Microsoft Word 2000
This article was previously published under Q211510 SYMPTOMS
When you drag an embedded chart from Microsoft Excel to a Microsoft Word document, you may receive the following error message:
An error has occurred while retrieving data from Microsoft Excel.
CAUSE
This error message occurs if your worksheet contains an embedded Microsoft Map object when you drag the embedded chart to Word.
WORKAROUND
You can copy the chart from Excel into Word by following these steps:
- In Excel, select the chart.
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- Start or switch to Word, and click the location where you want to paste the chart.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Microsoft Office programs, such as Excel and Word, support drag-and-drop functionality between programs. For instance, you can select a range of cells in an Excel worksheet and drag the range to a Word document. When you release the mouse button, the dragged object appears in the document.
Under normal circumstances, if you drag a chart embedded in an
Excel worksheet to a Word document, a copy of the chart appears in the Word document. However, this will not work if the Excel worksheet contains an embedded Microsoft Map object.
