WD2000: Unable to Insert Objects into Table Cell (211419)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q211419

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word, when you attempt to insert or paste an object into a table cell, the object either floats over the table, or is placed above or below the table.

CAUSE

When you insert either AutoShapes or WordArt into a Word document, the object may be formatted with a wrapping style other than "In line with text."

WORKAROUND

When you insert AutoShapes and WordArt, they are formatted with the wrapping style "In front of text." However, you can paste a picture of one of these objects into a table cell, and format it with the "In line with text" wrapping style. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Insert an AutoShape or WordArt object in your document.
  2. Select the object that you just inserted, and then click Cut on the Edit menu.
  3. Move the insertion point into the table cell where you want to insert the object.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
  5. In the Paste Special dialog box, under As, click Picture, and then click OK.
