SYMPTOMS

When you redefine heading styles Heading 2, Heading 3, and greater to include an indentation, and then apply heading numbering to the document, Microsoft Word resets the user-defined heading styles to their original indentation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, redefine the heading styles after you apply heading numbering.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
