Port Speed List for Direct Cable Connection Does Not List All Values (211182)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q211182 SYMPTOMS
After you create a direct cable connection on a COM port, the list of available port speeds on the connection properties does not include all of the appropriate values. For example, the value range should be from 300 to 115200, but the list may only go to up 4800. Also, the list may be incomplete from any level up. Note that this only happens on host connections, not on guest connections.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem and retrieve the entire list of values:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
- Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
- Double-click the Modems branch to expand it, right-click Communications cable between two computers, click Properties, and then click the Modem tab.
- Change the maximum port speed to 115200, and then click OK.
- Quit Device Manager, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 2000.
