WD2000: Web Templates Not Available on Web Pages Tab in New Office Document Dialog Box (210577)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q210577

SYMPTOMS

When you view the Web Pages tab in the New Office Document dialog box, (on the Windows Start menu, click New Office Document) the Web Page Wizard is the only option available.

In contrast, when you view the Web Pages tab in the New dialog box (in Word, click New on the File menu), you can select from seven Web page templates, as well as the Web Page Wizard.

CAUSE

The New Office Document dialog box displays the default template formats for Office programs. For example, it displays Word document templates (*.dot), Microsoft Word wizards (*.wiz), Microsoft PowerPoint templates (*.pot), Microsoft Access database wizards (*.mdz), and Microsoft Excel templates (*.xlt).

The seven templates available in the New dialog box in Word are Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) files; therefore, the New Office Document dialog box does not recognize these files as having one of the default formats.

RESOLUTION

To access the seven web templates, start or switch to Word, click New on the File menu, and then click the Web Pages tab.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
