WD2000: Changing a Numbered List Item to a Bulleted List Item Does Not Change the Entire List (210027)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q210027

SYMPTOMS

If you select one item in a numbered list and change its format to bulleted, only the selected item is changed. The list items not selected remain numbered.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because bulleted items in numbered lists are common. Therefore, the numbered list format is not programmed to change when one item is bulleted.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Highlight the entire numbered list.
  2. On the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering.
  3. Click the Bulleted tab, and then select the bullet style that you want to use.
  4. Click OK.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
