- Microsoft Paintbrush for MS-DOS 4.0
This article was previously published under Q21566 SUMMARY
Microsoft Paintbrush, version 4.0, which is bundled with the Microsoft
Mouse Driver, versions 7.0 and later, requires FRIEZE.COM or TINYFRZ.COM to
be resident in memory. If neither of these programs is loaded, Paintbrush
displays the following error message and does not load.
Frieze must be loaded
MORE INFORMATION
FRIEZE.COM is graphics-capture utility that Paintbrush depends on to print
graphics images, so Frieze must be loaded in order to start Paintbrush. If
the PBSETUP.EXE utility is completed properly, it creates a PAINT.BAT file
that correctly loads Frieze before Paintbrush. It is this PAINT.BAT file
you must use to start Paintbrush.
If you do not intend to print pictures from Paintbrush, run PBSETUP.EXE
from the PBRUSH directory and choose "None" under the printer option. After
doing this, the PAINT.BAT file that is used to load Paintbrush starts a
smaller version of Frieze called Tinyfrz, which does not support printing.
One advantage of using this option is that Tinyfrz uses less memory than
Frieze does, leaving more memory to create pictures with Paintbrush.
