WD2000: Recorded Macro Uses Caption Label String Instead of Constant (209961)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q209961

SYMPTOMS

When you record a macro to insert a caption (on the Insert menu, click Caption), the Label argument is recorded as a string instead of the predefined constant.

For example, if you record inserting a caption whose Label type is Figure, the following Visual Basic for Applications command is recorded:
Selection.InsertCaption Label:="Figure", TitleAutoText:="InsertCaption1", _
   Title:="", Position:=wdCaptionPositionBelow

Because this string value may be incompatible with a foreign language version of Word, the correct syntax is to use the predefined constant, as in the following example:
Selection.InsertCaption Label:=wdCaptionFigure, TitleAutoText:="InsertCaption1", _
   Title:="", Position:=wdCaptionPositionBelow

WORKAROUND

Microsoft provides programming examples for illustration only, without warranty either expressed or implied. This includes, but is not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. This article assumes that you are familiar with the programming language that is being demonstrated and with the tools that are used to create and to debug procedures. Microsoft support engineers can help explain the functionality of a particular procedure, but they will not modify these examples to provide added functionality or construct procedures to meet your specific requirements.
To work around this problem, replace the Label argument string value with the constant value.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The following describes the Label argument and its predefined constants:

Label: The caption label to be inserted. Can be a string or one of the following WdCaptionLabelID constants:
