WD2000: Recorded Macro Uses Heading Style String Instead of Constant (209959)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q209959

SYMPTOMS

When you record a macro to use a document style (on the Format menu, click Style), the Styles property is recorded as a string instead of the predefined constant.

For example, if you record choosing the Heading 1 style (on the Format menu, click Style, and view the Styles list), the following Visual Basic for Applications command is recorded:
Selection.Style = ActiveDocument.Styles("Heading 1")

Because this string value may be incompatible with a non-English language version of Word, the correct syntax is to use the predefined constant, as in the following example:
Selection.Style = ActiveDocument.Styles(wdStyleHeading1)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
