WD2000: Run-Time Error 1044 Printing with No Default Printer Installed (209954)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to print a file from the Windows Desktop or the Windows Explorer by right-clicking the selection and then clicking Print, the following error message appears:

Word cannot print. There is no printer installed.
Click OK and an additional Visual Basic error message appears:

Run-time error: "1044": Word cannot print. There is no printer installed.

RESOLUTION

Windows must have a default printer installed for Microsoft Word to use. To install a default Windows printer, run the Add Printer Wizard.

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Double-click Add Printer, and then follow the instructions in the wizard.
NOTE: If your printer model isn't listed in the Manufacturers and Printers lists, check the following Microsoft Web site

Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)

for an updated driver. If your printer is not on the HCL, contact the printer manufacturer for drivers and instructions.
