WD2000: Web Page Window or FrameSet Wraps Text Instead of Clipping It (209941)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q209941

SYMPTOMS

When you create a Web page document using Web Layout view (on the View menu, click Web Layout), there is no option with which you can turn off viewing text wrapping at Web Page or FrameSet borders. The Wrap to window option (on the Tools menu, point to Options, and click the View tab) has no effect on the wrapping while in Web Layout view.

NOTE: Text is wrapped when you are editing a Web page in Web Layout view in Word, but an Internet browser does not wrap the text.

RESOLUTION

When viewed in a browser, unbroken lines of text will not wrap. If you want to view your Web page as it will appear when viewed in an Internet browser, you can use a table. You can then size the table to take into account the length of any text you do not want to wrap.

For more information about creating tables, click Microsoft Word Help on the Help menu, type Create a Table in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

The typical behavior in an Internet browser is to clip text that continues without a line break, not to wrap it.
