The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q209881 SYMPTOMS
When you open a Microsoft Word 2000 document by double-clicking an embedded object in another program (such as Microsoft WordPad), you may find that the document has the wrong template attached to it.
CAUSE
This can happen if all of the following are true and occur in the order that they are listed:
- In Word, you create a new template, and then add Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) code to the template.
- You save, close, and then re-open the template.
- Within the template, you create a new style, save the template, and then close the template.
- You create a new document based on the new template, save the document, and then close the document.
- You insert the Word document as an embedded object in a file created in another OLE-capable program, such as WordPad.
- You double-click the embedded object.
When you double-click the embedded object, Word starts, but the document may have the default template (Normal.dot) attached to it instead of the new template that you created.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Word 2000. REFERENCESFor more information about linked and embedded objects, click Microsoft Word Help on the Help menu, type use linked and embedded objects to share information between office programs in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.
