SYMPTOMS

When you record a macro to perform a mail merge using mailing labels, the recorded macro fails to record the label number used for the mailing labels merge document.

WORKAROUND

Microsoft provides programming examples for illustration only, without warranty either expressed or implied. This includes, but is not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. This article assumes that you are familiar with the programming language that is being demonstrated and with the tools that are used to create and to debug procedures. Microsoft support engineers can help explain the functionality of a particular procedure, but they will not modify these examples to provide added functionality or construct procedures to meet your specific requirements. To work around this problem, you can edit the recorded macro to include the mailing label number. For example:

In the recorded macro, find the following command line:
Application.MailingLabel.CreateNewDocument Name:="", Address:="", AutoText _

and change the Name:= argument to equal the mailing label number.

For example, for the 5160 mailing label, change:
Application.MailingLabel.CreateNewDocument Name:="", Address:="", AutoText _

to the following:
Application.MailingLabel.CreateNewDocument Name:="5160", Address:="", AutoText _

To edit a macro:

  1. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Macros.
  2. Click to select the macro to edit in the list of macros.
  3. Click Edit.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
