WD2000: CPU Usage Increases When You Use "Track Changes While Editing" Option (209729)

When you work with the Track changes while editing feature turned on, or you work in a document that already contains tracked changes (revisions), the central processing unit (CPU) usage of your computer system may increase to 100 percent on some computers.
NOTE: To locate the Track changes while editing feature, point to Track Changes on the Tools menu, and then click Highlight Changes.
CAUSE
Word performs a complex display task to hide the deleted text changes in the document when the Highlight changes on screen option is turned off.
WORKAROUND
To work around this performance problem, select the Highlight changes on screen check box. To do this, follow these steps: - On the Tools menu, point to Track Changes and click Highlight Changes.
- In the Highlight Changes dialog box, click to select the Highlight changes on screen check box.
NOTE: Processing the document by accepting or rejecting the revisions also improves performance. For more information about tracking changes, click Microsoft Word Help on the
Help menu, type track changes in the Office Assistant or
the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics
returned. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
