WD2000: "A Valid Date or Time Is Required" with Year 1900 for Form Field (209725)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to set the default date of a text form field or to enter a valid date that contains the year 1900 or less in a text form field whose type is set to Date, the following error message appears:
A valid date or time is required.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, set the form field Type to Regular text instead of Date.
  1. If the document is protected for forms, on the Tools menu, click Unprotect Document.
  2. Double-click the form field to view the Text Form Field Options dialog box.
  3. In the Type list, click to select Regular text.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
