WD2000: Split Command Not Available If Using Frameset (209688)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word 2000

This article was previously published under Q209688

SYMPTOMS

The Split command on the Window menu is unavailable (dimmed).

CAUSE

The Split command is unavailable if you applied a frame to your page. If you remove a frame from the frameset, the command remains unavailable because the single page (frame) is still part of a frameset.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, you can display the document in two windows. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Window menu, click New Window.
  2. On the Window menu, click Arrange All.
NOTES:
  • When you create a new document based on the Normal template and click New Window on the Window menu, the title bar appends a colon and a number to the document name. This behavior does not occur when you have a frameset. In this case, the title bar shows "DocumentX" where X is a number.
  • If you have more than one frame in your document and you click New Window on the Window menu, the contents of the active frame (based on where your cursor is located when you click the command) will appear in the new window.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
