This article was previously published under Q209607 SYMPTOMS
When you press SHIFT+END to select a line of text in Word 2000, inline graphics that flow onto the next line are not selected.
This behavior is different from Word 97. In Word 97, an inline graphic that flows to the next line is selected as part of the previous line in some instances.
CAUSE
Word 2000 determines the location of the end of the line differently than does Word 97. In Word 2000, the EMBED field that represents the graphic is not selected when you press SHIFT+END if the graphic has moved to the next line. In contrast, in Word 97, the EMBED field is selected when you press SHIFT+END even if the graphic has moved to the next line.
To display the EMBED field, follow these steps:
- Click the graphic.
- Press SHIFT+F9 to turn on the field code of the embedded graphic. The EMBED field should look similar to the following:
- To display the graphic and turn off the EMBED field, select the EMBED field, and then press SHIFT+F9.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, press SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW to manually extend the selection to include the graphic.
