ACC2000: Fixed Format Required with Decimal Point Setting (208919)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Access 2000

This article was previously published under Q208919
Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

This article applies only to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb).

SYMPTOMS

In a table or query, if you set the number of decimal points in a Double Number field without setting the field's Format property to Fixed, the DecimalPlaces property setting has no effect on the display of the data.

CAUSE

The DecimalPlaces property setting has no effect if the Format property is set to General Number. When the Format property is left blank, it automatically defaults to the General Number setting. Therefore, if you leave the Format property blank, the DecimalPlaces property setting has no effect.

RESOLUTION

Change the field's Format property setting in the table or query to something other than blank or General Number.
