ACC2000: Cannot Enter a Non-Named Range in Import Wizard (208757)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Import Spreadsheet Wizard, you cannot select or enter a non-named range of cells. As a result, you must import the entire spreadsheet, instead of only a selected portion.

RESOLUTION

If you want to import a non-named range of cells, you can use the TransferSpreadsheet action in a macro or procedure. The TransferSpreadsheet action has a Range argument that you can set to a non-named range, such as A3:D16.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open any database.
  2. On the File menu, point to Get External Data, and then click Import.
  3. In the Import box, under Files of Type, click Microsoft Excel (*.xls).
  4. In the Look in box, locate an .xls file on your computer, and then click Import.
  5. In the Import Spreadsheet Wizard, try to select rows or columns individually. Note that you cannot select a non-named range.
  6. Click Finish to import the entire spreadsheet.
