WD2000: Invalid Page Fault When You Attempt to Preview a Directory's Contents (208563)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q208563 SYMPTOMS
When you open a file in Microsoft Word 2000 and then attempt to preview the contents of whatever directory is selected in the Open dialog box, you may receive the follow error message:
Invalid Page fault in ole32.dll at 0137:7ff616B8
You may also receive an error message other than an Invalid Page Fault (IPF).
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because the Preview pane in the Open dialog box (on the File menu) attempts to display the first Word file in the directory; if the file cannot be displayed or is corrupted, you receive an error message.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1:
Change the setting in the Views drop-down list in the Open dialog box to List, Details, or Properties instead of Preview.
Method 2:
Create a dummy file named 0000.doc in Word and save it in the directory. By doing this, you allow the Preview option in the Open dialog box to be used without displaying an error message when it attempts to read an unreadable file.
