ACC2000: Maximized Forms First Appear As Restored (208476)

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

Forms always open to a maximized state after any other Microsoft Access window has been maximized (excluding the Microsoft Access Database window). However, when a Microsoft Access window is maximized, forms may briefly be displayed in a restored state when they are first opened, instead of immediately opening as maximized. This behavior varies, based on the setting of the MinMaxButtons property of the form.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, set the MinMaxButtons property to Max Enabled or to Both Enabled.

You can also follow these steps if you want to use the None or Min Enabled settings instead:
  1. Start Microsoft Access, and then open any database.
  2. In the Database window, under Objects, click Macros, and then click New.
  3. In the Macro dialog box, type Echo as the first action.
  4. Under Action Arguments, in the Echo On box, select No.
  5. Type OpenForm as the second action.
  6. Under Action Arguments in the Form Name box, type the name of the form that will open maximized.
  7. Type Echo as the third action.
  8. Under Action Arguments, in the Echo On box, select Yes.
  9. Save, and then run the macro.
This macro displays only the final results of the actions and not any intermediate steps, such as a form opening in the restored state before it is maximized.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

When you set the MinMaxButtons property of a form to either None or Min Enabled, the form does not open immediately to a maximized state. Instead, the form opens momentarily to a restored state before it is maximized.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  2. Maximize the Database window.
  3. Under Objects, click Forms, click Products, and then click Design.
  4. If the property sheet is not open, click Properties on the View menu.
  5. Click the Format tab on the property sheet, and then locate the MinMaxButtons property.
  6. Set the MinMaxButtons property to either None or Min Enabled.
  7. Click Form View on the View menu, and note that any Microsoft Access window (the Database window, the Products form, and so on) briefly restores before the Products form is maximized.

    NOTE: This behavior may not be obvious on faster computers.
