Queries on two different "Advanced Find" tabs produce unexpected results in Outlook (208336)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
- Microsoft Outlook 2002
- Microsoft Outlook 2000
This article was previously published under Q208336 SYMPTOMS
When you use Advanced Find to locate an item or items, and you enter query information on both the left-most (initial) tab in the Advanced Find dialog box, and on the Advanced tab, you may get unexpected results.
CAUSE
The two query entries are processed as an AND operation, meaning both conditions must be true in order to satisfy the search.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.MORE INFORMATION
When you type query information on the Tasks tab and the Advanced tab, the two queries are combined with an AND to form the query. Anything you are looking for must match both conditions to be found.
NOTE: The Look for entry determines what the first tab will be called. The left-most tab will reflect this setting.
If you need to use an OR between two or more query statements use the Advanced tab to build all of your query statements.
