SYMPTOMS

When you use the Export Text Wizard to import, export, or link a text file, you may receive the following error message:
Invalid setting in the Excel Key of the engines section of the Windows Registry

RESOLUTION

Use the Registry Editor program, Regedit.exe, to modify a Windows Registry key.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. To start the Registry Editor program, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type Regedit.exe (in Microsoft Windows 95) or Regedt32.exe (in Microsoft Windows NT). Click OK.
  2. In the Registry Editor, expand the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4\Engines\Text

  3. Under the Format Key, you will find the following value:
       "DELIMITED()"
    					
  4. Change the value of the Format parameter to the string CSVDelimited.
  5. Close the Registry Editor program.
