No Dialing Sounds From Aztech Sound III Modem (208102)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows 98, your Aztech Sound III 336 FSP modem or Aztech Sound IV modem may not be able to generate dialing sounds.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when the Windows 98 information (.inf) file for the Aztech modem fails to update the volume control settings.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem:

  1. On the right side of the taskbar, double-click the Volume icon .
  2. On the Options menu, click Advanced Controls to place a check mark.
  3. Click Advanced, click to clear the Speaker Off check box, and then click to clear the Mic Monitoring check box.
  4. Click Close, and then quit the Volume Control tool.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
